International Literacy Day, which will be commemorated tomorrow on September 8, shines the spotlight on South Africa’s poor literacy rates – and the statistics are alarming. This day is a very important day in the global calendar, declared by UNESCO in 1967, to highlight the importance of improving literacy levels of individuals and communities across the world.
