Current Affairs: Dept of labour raid restaurants
The Aubrey Masango Show - A podcast by 702
A raid by a multi-disciplinary team of department of employment and labour inspectors led to the arrest of five people – a manager and four undocumented employees during a blitz operation conducted on restaurants to see whether they comply with labour law regulations and terms of employment for their employees. The raids on restaurants discovered many undocumented foreigners to have been found to be working under very deplorable conditions. The dept suggests that restaurants should find a creative way to document their employees in order to access benefits and to be protected by the law. The raids were highly publicised as a 4 day interdisciplinarity raid on Gauteng hospitality industry. Many undocumented workers were arrested. Very little has been said about the owners of these restaurants. What happens to the owners who clearly disregarded the labour laws regulations. To elaborate on this we’re joined by Ms. Aggy Moiloa Deputy Director- General Inspection and Enforcement Service at the department of Labour.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
