The Blue Light Leavers Podcast - A podcast by Andy Labrum

Paul Killingley is a former Police Inspector who was referred to me 5 months ago and has just embarked on his new career as a Project Manager. I caught up with Paul just a few weeks into his new role and in this interview, he talks about his former career and the highs and lows. He talks about how he'd been toying with the idea of finding a new career for around 5 years but like many of us, had no idea what he could do or what he wanted to do. He was becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of career progression and had also been through some significant challenges in his personal life and felt now was the right time for him. We met for coffee and it was clear he was ready to leave, but Paul had no idea what he wanted to do. In the interview he talks about our deep dive into the types of roles he'd had and the skills and experience he'd gained along the way and the tasks I set him. After meeting up again, a career path was clear and after reviewing his CV, I referred him to Charlotte Eve of CK Futures Ltd (Guest number 1 on the BLL Podcast) to really nail any application. He talks about the process from start to finish, the application, interview and presentation and THAT call. He also talks about handing in his resignation and his first few weeks in his new role. Paul also discusses networking and how his view has changed beyond all recognition along with the lessons he's learned throughout the process.
