68: Black Wire - Tom Greatorex on rocking the Leeds scene, life on tour with The Cribs, and the Black Wire gig that inspired I Predict A Riot

The Boys in the Band Podcast - A podcast by Peter Smith & Richard Gallagher

Categories:

This week on The Boys in the Band Podcast we catch up with Tom Greatorex from Black Wire. The band burst onto the scene in Leeds and immediately became renowned for their wild live shows, with one of their early gigs inspiring the Kaiser Chiefs' I Predict A Riot. Tom recalls that night - and tries to work out how he ended up losing his trousers and being punched on stage by a bouncer! The band spent a lot of time on the road with The Cribs and Tom chats about his respect for the Jarman brothers and other bands of the era who inspired them as we discuss how the 00s scene emerged. The band split in 2007 but gave fans a lockdown treat in 2020 when they finally released their second album 13 years after it had been recorded, so we get the story behind that, too.  Black Wire fan?
