Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started!    Ellen: I have been told but a few naturopaths that my DHEA is high, ranging from low 200’s to 390. I am a 60 yo post menopausal women who experiences fatigue, lack of energy and regular insomnia. My primary Dr doesn’t seemed concerned provides little direction. Can you shed light on DHEA’s importance and how to lower? My cortisol is also high. I d not feel stressed. Karen: Hello Dr. Cabral and thank you in advance for helping me with this problem! I'm a 48 year-old, healthy woman who has experienced flushing, brain fog, and profuse sweating on my eyelids and under my eyes whenever I consume garlic. Sometimes, even the smell of garlic can cause the onset of these symptoms. Unfortunately, this sensitivity has become much worse as I have gotten older. These symptoms will last for several hours and are quite uncomfortable but can be lessened slightly by drinking large quantities of water and/or by chewing mint gum. It certainly makes sense to me that this is an allicin sensitivity, but my symptoms seem so odd in comparison to other food sensitivity based symptoms. Do you have any insight into what might be going on and/or if there is anything additional I can do to offset the symptoms if I happen to accidentally ingest garlic? I am in the habit of asking restaurant staff if certain dishes contain garlic, but oftentimes they either do not know or incorrectly state that there is no garlic in the recipe (and sometimes there is not enough garlic in a recipe for my taste buds to detect it but there is still enough for my body to respond negatively). Thank you!!! Sarah: I understand the benefits of infrared sauna multiple times a week. Right now I’m only able to go once a week. However, I do workout 5x a week, a mix of strength & hiit, and sweat a lot. So my question is, does sweating during cardio provide the same benefit as the detoxification benefits of the sauna? Ana: Hey Doc! I'm a certified L1 & L2 IHP and I love it so much. I always go back to the materials and I feel like I will be doing so forever. There is so much content! My question is: One of my client's saliva hormonal test came back with lower than normal cortisol at the four different times in the day but quite high DHEA.Some estrogen dominance too but testosterone was ok. I'm usually used to high DHEA when cortisol is high but not high DHEA when cortisol is low. Is this common? Why would this happen? Roberta: I have hashimoto, I keep reading, should not take ashwagandha if you have hashimoto. Is this true? Thank you Roberta 56 with terrible hot flashes due to post menopause, brainfog, anxiety and panic attacks.
