109 and 110 Confronting the Critics: JEDP, the Mount Ebal Defixio, and C. S. Lewis, Part 4

Episodes 109 and 110 together make up Part 4 of our series. Following the publication of the Mt Ebal defixio and its analysis, the critical juggernaut, led by Drs. Christopher Rollston and Robert Cargill is proceeding in an apparent attempt to shut down serious investigation of this tablet. In episodes 107-110 we will investigate in some detail the critical evaluation of this discovery, with Dr. Rollston’s position in episodes 108 & 109, and Dr. Cargill’s in episode 110. In this series, as we promised in episode #52, we revisit this discovery following the publication of the scholarly paper on May 12th of this year. We hope to lay out the context and reasons this discovery and its controversial interpretation is so important. To do so, we must become acquainted with modern theology and biblical criticism as practiced in the contemporary West, the ongoing scholarly debate over the defixio, and finally to discuss C. S.
