No Compromise #18: The Haidt Effect, Part3

The Christian Atheist - A podcast by Dr. John D. Wise

Jenny and I conclude our discussion on a phenomenon we’ve observed on the contemporary scene in which committed members of the political left find an issue that has ”crossed the line” for them, and rebel from the proposed orthodoxy, usually seeing only this issue as problematic, or as having a particular origin in recent times that is wrong and must be addressed, but missing the larger sense in which these problems are the natural logical outplay of the logic of the left, the ideology of Hegelianism/Marxism/Critical Theory/Wokism. ”here’s a question: does big picture, abstract thinking cause liberals to be less happy because they are removing themselves from the embodied here and now? After all, the ability to live in the moment and appreciate our lives as they exist does seem to be a key ingredient in day-to-day contentment. Or is it conservatives’ concern with lasting marriage, strong family cohesiveness, and day-to-day sociality that tips the scales toward greater daily contentment and happiness?”   Catherine Caldwell-Harris, 2013 Here is a partial list of resources for this episode: Suggested Books: The Righteous Mind, Jonathan Haidt The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion, Pre-Owned Paperback 0307455777 9780307455772 Jonathan Haidt - Walmart.com The Coddling of the American Mind, Jonathan Haidt The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure: Lukianoff, Greg, Haidt, Jonathan: 9780735224896: Amazon.com: Books Articles: ”I Regret Being a Slut,” Bridget Phetasy I Regret Being A Slut - Beyond Parody with Bridget Phetasy (substack.com) ”Haidt: Conservatives Understand Liberals Better” Haidt: Conservatives Understand Liberals Better Than Liberals Understand Conservatives | The Independent Whig Haidt interviews with Bill Moyers and Stephen Colbert Haidt: Conservatives Understand Human Nature Better Than Liberals | The Independent Whig ”How a Liberal Learned to Respect Conservative Thinking,” Catherine Caldwell-Harris, Bostonia How a liberal learned to respect conservative thinking | Bostonia | BU Alumni Magazine ”Why Won’t They Listen?” William Saletan, New York Times, 2012 Video: Why Won’t They Listen? ‘The Righteous Mind,’ by Jonathan Haidt – The Muslim Times ”The Catastrophic Covid Convergence,” Debbie Lerman, July 11, 2022 The Catastrophic Covid Convergence ⋆ Brownstone Institute ”This is the Moment I Gave Up on Joe Biden,” Sasha Stone This is the moment I gave up on Joe Biden (nypost.com) If you enjoy our content, consider donating through PayPal via https://ko-fi.com/thechristianatheist https://www.youtube.com/c/TheChristianAtheist/featured https://www.facebook.com/JnJWiseWords https://wisewordsforyouroccasion.wordpress.com For more great content, check out our other podcasts: Simple Gifts: where the written word is spoken for you … https://pod.link/1557528158 The Christian Atheist: where faith and reason fuse in the incarnation …https://pod.link/1553077203 #drawaline #drawingaline #sashastone #jonathanhaidt #jordanpeterson #debbielerman #evident #evidence #god #belief #sarte #metaphysical #humanrationalfreedom #humanrationality #freedom #religion #lookingglass #christian #atheist #christianity #atheism #jesus #jesuschrist #god #bible #oldtestament #newtestament #nocompromise #rationality #faith #philosophy #philosopher #culture #society #hegelianism
