6-17 Joe Show Whole
The Joe Starkey Show - A podcast by Audacy - Wednesdays
Rory McIroy choked on the big stage and that made both Joe and Paul feel good because even the pros mess up too. Paul also saw Earth, Wind, and Fire last night, which he had rave reviews about. The conversation shifts to the Mark Kaboly story about Cam Heyward possibly playing somewhere other than Pittsburgh, including Cleveland. Would fans miss Heyward? Is he still in the top 5 at his position? We take some phone calls from listeners about the Cam Heyward situation. One listener points out that sarcasm may have some sort of truth to it. The show goes off the rails(as per usual), and a discussion about American Idol, Jeff Daniels, and other social media stars. Today is also the 30th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson car chase. A discussion about the biggest sports stories of the 90s comes up. Michael Jordan retiring, Magic Johnson announcing he had HIV, and others come up. The Dream Team was also up there. The Pirates won their series against the Colorado Rockies including two bullpen games. Did they get lucky or did they just play a bad team? Why did they push the Paul Skenes start back and have a second bullpen game, was it ticket sales or an extra day of rest? Joe has an issue with something Ben Cherington said about the trade deadline. Ryan McMahon stole home. How does that happen? Paul Skenes starts tonight. Dan Zangrilli joins quickly to talk about the Pirates starting pitching and the lack of depth at the position. Trevor Bauer is still out there and he is dominating the Mexican League right now. If the Pirates are committed to winning, why not make a move to get someone that can pitch? Dan stays on for another segment. Joe names him honorary Pirates General Manager and asks what he would do. Dan would like another two relievers, the catcher, a first baseman, and a corner outfielder. Joe is "all in" on Rowdy Tellez. Dan is not as optimistic. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the name that interests Dan. Would you go see Paul Skenes during a 97 degree heat wave? We open the phone lines to people to see if they are excited to go to the game and watch Skenes. A caller came in from Iowa for a random game and got lucky to see Skenes. One listener says he is boycotting the Pirates because of Bob Nutting, no matter what. Rapid fire questions from Joe to Paul. Charles Barkley says this is his last year on TV, Caitlin Clark, and others.
