Federico García Lorca (1898–1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright, and activist whose work burned with passion and political defiance. A champion of the marginalized, he wrote of love, loss, and "duende"—the dark spirit that fuels true art. As fascism tightened its grip on Spain, Lorca’s words became an act of resistance. His poetry gave voice to the oppressed, his plays exposed authoritarian rulers, and his radical vision made him a threat to the regime. In 1936, at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, he was assassinated—his body never found. But Lorca never disappeared.
