The Weekly Stirner (Week 2) [00:00:45] How Atheists Invented Christianity & Christianity Invented the Atheist: Also, Notes on Feuerbach, Der Freien, and the Young Hegelians There is much in Max Stirner's philosophy of egoism that was a direct reply to Ludwig Feuerbach's theory of liberalism and the latter's critique of religion. In this introduction to the first chapter of Stirner's book, we take a deeper look at Feuerbach's critique of Christianity in The Essence of Christianity. We also learn a little about Max Stirner's intellectual setting amongst the Young Hegelians during the 1830s in Berlin, where he studied and debated with the likes of Bruno Bauer, David Strauss, Karl Marx, and even Feuerbach. Because one cannot quite understand the design of The Ego and His Own without understanding a little about the closing of the Hegelian philosophy of history and the left-Liberal bent of the Young Hegelians (with the exception of the libertarian Stirner), we here focus primarily upon Hegel's philosophy of alienation, which stands at the root of Feuerbach's system. We also learn exactly how Atheists invented the Christianity that would later persecute their children as Infidels.
