[00:00:45] The Natural Slave's Procrustean Bed; Also, Are Libertarians Anti-Democratists? Procrustes was a psychotic denizen of Ancient Greece who used to kidnap passerby, feed them dinner, then ask them to lie down in his iron bed. If they were too tall for the bed, he chopped off their legs; if too short, he stretched them until they fit. He fit the man to the bed, instead of fitting the bed to the man. We see a similar pattern of retailoring the tailor (sartor resartus) in Democratic society, where mankind is held to the rule of the mean, the average human being (a being that cannot and does not exist). Similar Procrustean trends in identity politics tore apart the ancients as well as the moderns, and most notably wreaked havoc in Hitlerian Germany in the mid-1930s. Today we take a look at the larger implications of Identity Politics in order to get a better understanding of the dynamics of the Bund (the class-type of the tribal identity group) and its hostile relation to individualist Libertarianism. The root of the conflict is not just political or economic--the root of the conflict is actually psychological. To gain insight into this psychological combat between Libertarians and identitarians, we will take a look at Aurel Kolnai's critical examination of Hitlerian Germany from 1938, to see exactly what kinds of cultural memes were prevalent in the run-up to the most infamous State administration in modern history. The conflict also reveals that he Libertarian's real foe is Natural Slavery, whose existence was aptly delineated by Aristotle in his Politics.
