The global sports industry is 1.3 trillion dollars. It is huge, global, and growing. Watching a game or match live is an incredible experience; The roar and the energy of the crowd, seeing the players up close, the intensity of a goal or point being made. This is a great example of how a shared experience validates our interests. Without a physical audience present for a game or match, it feels almost like practice—there is no giant unruly crowd cheering the players on. It lacks the essence of what makes live sports a true social phenomenon. In the face of COVID-19 and its restrictions regarding crowds, there are a multitude of options and opportunities to create the false impression of a shared experience to keep fans engaged and to motivate the players. Consider using Zoom to conference yourself into seat of stadium, or the possibility of video game simulated crowds. There are innovative business opportunities to be found in the confrontation of live sports events. Looking forward to discovering what will be done? Discover what lies ahead of us in the latest episode of MIT Professional Education's new series with Dr. Abel Sanchez to stay up to date with the Digital Transformation.
