Why Do Dogs Eat Grass?

Rowan Sanderson sits down with Dr. Brendan Clarke, President of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society (RFVS) to discuss why dogs eat grass. Many believe that dogs may be eating grass as a way to engage in zoopharmacognosy, which is self-treating according to a sense of smell and intuition. However, dogs cannot actually digest grass without doing themselves harm. More likely, they are eating grass to purge the system or calm themselves. If your dog is eating grass, do not panic. Investigate why they are eating grass in the first place. Only call your vet if you see abdominal discomfort, signs of colic, or vomiting of food beyond the grass.
