She is the author of many books on Russian history and culture, including, amongst others, Comrade Pavlik: The Rise and Fall of a Soviet Boy Hero, the prize-winning Children’s World: Growing Up in Russia, 1890-1991, and St Petersburg: Shadows of the Past.
