Pat Bostick joins the show, Jeff Hathhorn, Steelers OC candidate

The Fan Morning Show - A podcast by Audacy - Fridays

Hour 2 with Dorin Dickerson and Pat Bostick: Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. The Pirates signed reliever Aroldis Chapman Monday. There are still moves that need to be made. Chapman had a good season last year and won a World Series. He also doesn't have the task of being the Pirates closer. At 35, he still has a 100 mph fastball. Unless Paul Skenes dominates in spring training, he will likely start in AAA and get a few starts before being promoted. The Penguins scored on their own net in Arizona. The Steelers put in a request to interview Rams pass-game coordinator Zac Robinson. Someone from the McVay tree is a good candidate to build an offense. Tomlin needs to turn words into good actions. Robinson is 37 years old and has never been a coordinator. The Steelers need a good offensive mind. Pat Bostick joined for the rest of the show. The Steelers have put in a request to interview Rams pass-game coordinator Zac Robinson. Dorin played with Robinson in the Senior Bowl. He doesn't have the play calling experience, but has been to the Super Bowl. Pat thinks you want to cast a wide net. He works in conjunction with quarterbacks and hearing messages from Sean McVay. McVay is one of the most detail-oriented coaches and Robinson has been under McVay's wing. Do you look much into coaching trees? Pat doesn't think Mike Tomlin has a coaching tree because he's a defensive head coach and much more involved. Offensive head coaches have better coaching trees with the coordinators being able to translate what their coach is leading the way for, Andy Reid, Bill Walsh, and Kyle Shanahan are prime examples. If you're in the Steelers shoes, would you rather have an OC who can develop a young quarterback or is an ultra schemer with play calling? Pat thinks it's about developing Kenny Pickett or the next young QB. Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins come with very high price tags.
