Felicia, owner of Reel Awesome Productions, began working in television when she was a teenager. Although her passion for sharing stories was strong, she still found herself exploring other options, mainly due to  "encouragement" from  family members to pursue a career in medicine. After "flip flopping" in university, she ultimately felt clear on her mission as a  news reporter sharing stories.  After completing her education SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology), Felicia got hired right out of school for her first job in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The hardest part of starting her career was moving to a small town that wasn't ethnically diverse. It was a huge culture shock. People would ask her, why is your English so good? (Felicia grew up in Calgary.) Her next job was with CTV Regina. During the day, she worked as a production assistant and at night she was a video journalist. She actually shot all her own stories, carrying 50lbs of camera equipment, then reporting live from the studio. Whenever she was asked to try something new, like reporting the weather for the first time, Felicia said yes. Her willingness to learn new roles and tackle new challenges gave her what she feels is the number one required skill to be a successful entrepreneur: adaptability. For twenty years, she was super focused on growing her skills as a reporter and admits she was a perfectionist. Her perfectionism kept her from seeing herself as  an entrepreneur. She was convinced starting a business was too hard. It wasn't until recently, after settling into motherhood, she realized many people want to get comfortable on camera so they can share their stories. She felt called to start Reel Awesome Productions.Connect with Felicia on Instagram.Learn more about the Fempreneur Community.Live in Calgary, Alberta? Join us at an event!
