Travel agents prepare for travel’s comeback

The travel industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, but travel agents are not simply sitting idle. As senior editor Jamie Biesiada discusses in this episode, travel advisors are working on proactive outreach to clients, investing in training and preparing for travel’s eventual comeback. In fact, the hardships travelers faced at the beginning of the pandemic have highlighted the benefits of working with a travel professional who can help travelers negotiate the altered landscape. We’re not yet seeing a mass closure of travel agencies, Biesiada says; still, experts expect some fairly major consolidation among agencies of all sizes. And, perhaps surprisingly, some people are actively considering starting careers as travel agents.
