What’s the point of impeaching Donald Trump?

Donald J Trump's latest impeachment trial begins tomorrow where he stands accused of something completely unique and unimaginable: that he incited an attack on the US Capitol, an impeachable offense of historic proportions. But what’s the point - given it seems apparent that - just like with the three previous trials - the Senate will not convict and Donald Trump will not be barred from holding office in the future.
