Flashback: Episode 77: Dr. Vivian Chen on Environmental Toxins, Allergies, and Heavy Metals

The Herban Farmacy - A podcast by The Herban Farmacy

Dr. Chen is a UK trained medical doctor with 15 years of clinical experience. She is board certified in the UK in both internal medicine and family practice. Her world turned upside down when her daughter was hospitalized soon after being born with symptoms no doctor could figure out. Through doing her own research, she was able to help her daughter recover. She also realized that the many years of chronic fatigue, acne and brain fog she had was due to environmental toxicity. This opened the world of root causes she had never considered before as a conventional medical doctor. When she moved to San Francisco she decided not to get relicensed as an MD in the US, but instead to coach clients back to health by identifying root causes and implementing lifestyle solutions. She is also on a mission to help people reduce their toxin load because she believes environmental toxins to be one important root cause of many chronic health conditions. What we talked about:3:35- Introduction to Dr. Vivian Chen and how she got into integrative health and why she got out of allopathic medicine12:30- Her own health journey and how that lead her to how she is practicing with her patients today16:25- Major contributors to food allergies for the general population20:00- Pesticides and the roles that they play in causing food allergies23:25- Other areas that toxins in food are found28:00- Switching from plastic to glass and stainless steel for our food preparation34:30- The difference between the regulations in Europe vs. the United States36:00- Specific environmental toxins that target specific body parts41:40- Where heavy metals are found and how to detoxify from them50:10- How having the MTHFR gene mutation hinders the ability to detox from environmental toxins and if people should test for the gene mutation if they are having health issues54:30- The most powerful lifestyle factor that turns on and off genes that are less optimal57:45- Wrap upShow notes:Dr. Vivian Chen on InstagramDr. Vivian Chen’s Website Connect with Stacey:Stacey on InstagramStacey’s WebsiteJoin The Herban Farmacy Facebook GroupShop BeautycounterSandyBoy Productions Shows:Why is Everyone Yelling? The Up and Running PodcastThe Illuminate PodcastI’ll Have Another with Lindsey HeinReady to Run Podcast
