Episode 14: Painting using Plants with Tanya Val

Welcome to the Inspired Painter Podcast! In today's episode, I interview artist and pigment maker Tanya Val.  Tanya is Alaska based abstract painter and florist who is inspired by nature’s warmth, adventures and all the good feels!  Her artwork explores themes of individuality, freedom and sustainability with the use of warm tones, expressive brush strokes and layered textures. Her artistic approach is purely intuitive with little to no planning, allowing me to experiment and develop each piece based on feeling and emotion of the moment.   Tanya is also a photographer and floral designer, and her floral work takes an artistic approach, allowing her to paint with flowers.  Her style is wild and romantic while taking in nature as a guide in illustrating the most organic beauty and its feeling.   Tanya makes all of her own plant pigments by foraging in her home wilderness in Alaska and hand-creating each dye and pigment.  I found this so fascinating, and join us today as Tanya walks us through the inspiration for her work and the  process she uses to create her own pigments—even giving us a recipe to try one on our own!
