This week’s podcast episode can cause you to question yourself and your business. That is because I am talking about comparing yourself to others, compromising yourself for others and tuning back into your authentic self. It’s a slightly woo episode that will require self honesty. Comparing yourself to others is more of a problem in this day and age than it was back when there was no social media, no camera phones and certainly no internet! However, it is a very real issue that affects many of us especially in the business space. How many times have you asked a fellow landscaper how long they are booked up for? Or, have you had many enquiries? I say who actually cares what they are doing, just focus on yourself. You see, when we compare ourselves and our businesses to others we only know the surface level information, we know nothing of what is going on behind the scenes and what variables are creating their results. You can compare yourself to others and then look to change yourself or your business to compete with others. This can often lead to compromising your core beliefs, your core skills and your passion in order to ‘compete’. Another thing to bear in mind when you are growing your landscaping or garden design business is that others opinions are their issues not yours. You should connect with yourself first and ignore those around you that see lack instead of abundance. Finally remember that your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) is being authentically you. It is a well known fact that people buy from people and you will sell more when you connect, build rapport and show your true self to to your clients. Especially in the landscaping industry where there is a lot of cowboys you need to showcase your skill, build trust and get them to like you over the next contractor quoting their project. Sales 101 right there. And always, always, always be excited to step outside of your comfort zone. Ensuring your business meets and reflects your needs, your values and your mission and goals. Make the changes needed to become the best you and ensure your business follows suit.
