In this episode we interview E. Lee Walker, author of The Imagination House, first President of Dell Technologies through its formative years, professor at the University of Austin teaching entrepreneurship and civic engagement, and faculty at the Texas A&M International Honors Leadership Seminar in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. Lee graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physics in 1963 and received NASA and National Science Foundation funding for his post-graduate work in nuclear physics. Lee received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1967. After leaving Dell in 1990, Lee was asked to teach at the University of Texas at Austin. His graduate courses in Business Management have earned him three teaching awards. He currently teaches a Presidential First-year Signature Course, “Pathways to Civic Engagement” along with “Civic Viewpoints”, both in the Plan II Honors Program where he is an Adjunct Professor. Among other honors, Lee was named Austinite of the Year in 1998 by the Austin Chamber of Commerce. He also received the Texas Nature Conservancy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Lee’s first book Imagination House: An Entrepreneurial Life was recently released in 2019 by Texas A&M Press. Lee resides in Austin, Texas, with his wife Jennifer and their two daughters. His two older daughters and his grandchildren also live in Austin. He splits his time between Austin and Umbria, Italy.
