Most physio’s think they are good listeners when in fact very little are. Take the subjective assessment. It is the part of your wider patient assessment and the part of the assessment that the majority of physio’s think they do a great job with… Most believing that it is their objective assessment that lets them down... And the main reason why you might sometimes struggle to find the right patient diagnosis and problems. For some this is true, but for many this is not the case. There is a big difference between listening and listening well to your patient... And this can be the big difference in aiding the success of your subjective assessment and helping you find the right patient diagnosis… Ensuring your patient feels part of their treatment plan... And in turn helping to keep your patient onside and fully adhered to their home exercise programme. This is so important given the primary reason patients do not get better it when they don’t do their rehab! So what is 'real' listening and how do you do it. Listen to this week's podcast episode to find out! Enjoy the show. Andy Barker The New Grad Physio Mentor PS. The subjective assessment is something that therapists undervalue and in most cases wrongly believe they are much better at than they actually are. I’ll be doing a deep dive into my subjective assessment at my upcoming course, my 1-Day Rehab and Return to Performance Course… Sat 25th Nov 2023 at Weetwood Hall and Hotel (Leeds, England). 09:00-16:00. This will include the exact questions I ask, and the reasoning why. Discover why the traditional subjective assessment questions you learned at Uni leave so much undiscovered for so many patients and why missing this important information is making your life so much harder to find the right patient diagnosis and patient problems. Head here to secure one of the last few tickets. Missed the event? You can access my subjective assessment module as part of my New Grad Physio Membership.
