World Suicide Prevention Day was 10th September 2021, so this episode is very timely. The suicide statistics are growing at an alarming rate. Worldwide, every 40 seconds another person dies by suicide. It is probably any parent’s worst nightmare, when they suspect or learn, that their child is contemplating suicide. So what can parents do to support their child when they feel or know that they are really struggling? She has enjoyed 29 years’ working in the NHS and Higher Education. Annessa’s subject specialties and interests include suicide and loss, spirituality, and compassionate care. Annessa’s Doctoral research (Meeting Spaces: crafting conversations about suicide in nurse education) explored what was needed to have meaningful conversations about suicide. Annessa is a former Trustee and advocate of PAPYRUS, Trustee for Teen Yoga UK and Recoco, Newcastle. She is currently involved in national and regional research about suicide with veterans and the ambulance service.
