Can miscarriage be avoided? What causes a miscarriage? Are some miscarriages protective? And why do women with PCOS have higher rates of miscarriage? These are some of the questions I was asking myself in writing my book on getting pregnant with PCOS- so I thought: time to blimmin do a podcast on this because NO-ONE seems to be talking about it. There’s a plethora of information about how to get pregnant with PCOS, but nothing about what to look out for when we you do finally conceive. And there are a few key things we need to be aware of. Pregnancy complication rates are much higher in PCOS but from my experience, they don’t have to be. I’ve found the pregnancy complications that often come with PCOS have nothing to do with PCOS purse, but are due to the root cause, especially when that’s insulin or hypothyroidism. In this week’s podcast I’m getting into the nitty gritty of the three most common complications: MiscarriageGestational diabetesPre eclampsia. You’ll likely have heard about the miscarriage, but gestational diabetes? Well that’s another story. Gestational diabetes is Type 2 diabetes (non insulin diabetes) developed during pregnancy. There are many hormonal changes that happen during pregnancy, and one of them to make you more insulin resistant to help deliver nutrients to the growing baby. So if you already have some insulin resistance going into pregnancy- it makes sense that you’re more likely to develop it. So this episode , I’m explaining all about the WHY and most importantly WHAT you can do to reduce your risk.
