You can’t please everyone

Episode 374 I have been given a number of great quotes over the past few weeks. Many of the quotes have been nice, and I have since forgotten them. Two of them, however, have really stuck with me. They have seemed to come up again and again both as I was working on some new class content and editing some of my recent work. They are both Buddhist quotes and I have no idea who the source of the quote, but I have them in my notebooks and can't stop thinking about them. I lost myself trying to please everyone else. Now I'm losing everyone while I'm finding myself. You are not responsible for the versions of you that exist in other people's minds. This week's podcast takes a look at these two quotes and how they impact our approach to our photography and our creative living. There is no doubt that many of us will have doubts in our work at some point. I think one of the biggest doubts comes from owning your own artistic approach and way of seeing. It is hard to not chase the latest trend and do things your way. But you can't be who you are if you are trying to be someone else, and you can't create your work if you are always trying to please someone else.
