Nicola's homebirth to Luca
The Positive Births NZ podcast - A podcast by Helen Bartrom

Categories:
Nicola compares her homebirth with Luca to her previous hospital birth to first baby Skye and all the differences between her first and second births. This is definitely a story for mums in their second pregnancies looking for some inspiration about how different things can be from one birth to another. Nicola was very intentional about her preparation and practice and she knows this paid off. She mentions the type of research she did, the work she did, what she found helpful and how this impacted on her whole mindset and journey. We start off by talking about Nicola’s first birth to Skye she shares about the stressful events of her first pregnancy and a stressful and long induction and birth to baby Skye which really shook Nicola up. In her 2nd pregnancy Nicola used this podcast to surround herself with positive birth stories and was looking for inspiration and help to get her into the best possible mindset. She religiously practiced the tools she’d learnt first time round from the very start of her pregnancy to make sure they were totally ingrained within her, she reached out to me to do some specific release work, recapped on the breathing and all in all was totally determined to use the the tools properly this time to have a much better 2nd experience. She ticked all the boxes so that she knew she had done everything she could to make this birth as positive as possible. As you’ll hear baby Luca was posterior for most of her labour and she shares what they did to and move him, how she felt with a toddler there for the last part of birth and the experience of a rare condition of postpartum pnuemomediastinum The resources mentioned in this episode include: The Midwives Cauldron podcast and research from Dr Sara Wickham, Dr Rachel Reed and Dr Sarah Buckley.
