King Rem is a musician, producer, emcee, and film composer in Brooklyn, New York. His works include Fly Technique Vol. 1 and Lightheaded with Mondo Slade, and film scores for Acquitted, Maximillian, and Project Die Happy. Rem was formerly the director of special projects at Harvard University Hip Hop Archive and Research Institute, and recently, he worked on the Prince symposium at New York University with De Angela Duff.  In this conversation, Allen and Rem talk about his regimented approach to creativity, the social dynamics of the ensemble, and the process of composing for film. Rem recalls influential aspects of his childhood in terms of music, for instance, his mother buying a record player, and his grandmother being the organist at his church.
