#040 – Rob Harrold

The Recluse Podcast - A podcast by Allen Orrante

Rob Harrold is a freelance photographer based in Portland, Oregon. His subjects include nature, architecture, and people. He has recently delved into photojournalism, and has documented some of what has transpired at the protests in Portland.  In this conversation, Allen and Rob talk about his time in China and the customs he noticed. They talk about the value of shooting a photo and how the photo itself memorializes what it took to capture it. They talk about the emotional work that can go into shooting a portrait for a timid individual. Rob describes what he has seen at the Portland protests. Of particular interest is the inadvertent portrait that Rob shot of an agent equipped with a helmet and riot gear. The agent is looking directly into the camera; the person is visibly anxious, and thereby, humanized.  Social Media https://www.instagram.com/remaining.light/ Photography Website https://www.remaininglight.photography
