Natasja Sadi - Cake Atelier Amsterdam

Natasja’s background is in bridal couture, but after twenty years she changed her focus and is now an incredibly successful cake designer and creator of the most incredibly beautiful and life-like, delicate sugar flowers. Natasja has created cakes and sugar flower arrangements for clients from New York to Paris. Her cakes, sugar flowers and photography have been featured in international magazines such as Elle Décor USA, Flower Magazine and Dutch Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. She also has an incredibly beautiful Instagram feed where she shares her daily life in Amsterdam, her amazing sugar flowers as well as her trademark ‘Sunday flowers’ in Delftware vases, bought from the local flower market and arranged in a Dutch Masters style. “My daily life centres around the rich tapestry that is the city of Amsterdam. Woven with its canals and laced with ornate decorative buildings, alive with history. Exploring the city anew each day through the eyes of my young family, seeing reflections on the water and changing colours of the seasons, as if for the first time. Sparking my imagination and desire to create. Throughout my life I’ve been captivated by vivid environments filled with light and colour. The world around me has always been an endless source of intrigue and creative inspiration. These fascinations fuel my work.” Natasja’s Episode “It started with a Barbie cake” Before we even start talking, we all experience a little bit of ‘mantle envy’, after a glimpse of Natasja’s amazing mantlepiece display behind her (a must see!). We trace Natasja’s journey from the School of Fashion, through twenty years of designing wedding dresses and all the way up to how she taught herself the art of sugar flowers. Of course we dig deep into how she acquired her incredible skills, her almost forensic examination of each part of each flower and her deep understanding of the journey of the flower at every stage of its life - who would believe the poppies above aren’t real, but made by Natasja out of sugar? Natasja has so many nuggets of advice that can apply in any creative field, like ‘keep practicing and find your own style’, ‘when you have a garden you are rich’ and ‘don’t attempt a dandelion in sugar’! There’s so much packed into this episode, so tune in and take some time to lose yourself in Natasja’s images on her website - you'll lose hours!
