Thordis Fridriksson - Broadcaster & gardener

The Restless Creatives Podcast - A podcast by Brigitte Girling, Lucy Hunter, Fiona Pickles

Thordis is a broadcaster, gardener and keen knitter - amongst many other things ... A Cambridge graduate, Thordis moved into radio, presenting live programmes from Early Breakfast to Drive; prerecording documentaries as well as live reporting covering news, lifestyle and entertainment. She has interviewed Alan Bennett, Brian Blessed and Honor Blackman and was the on-stage interviewer alongside Ruby Wax, for her book 'Frazzled'. Undaunted, after Covid restrictions meant giving up her role as host of BBC Radio Norfolk's Garden Party, a two-hour speech and phone-in show, Thordis set up her highly successful garden Podcast, Talking Dirty in early 2020. She currently hosts BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's Drivetime show as well as running a YouTube channel of gardening tutorials with her 'Garden Party' colleagues. Her voice has been used across the BBC in trails and when not radio-ing is either found at the wheel of a Morris Minor, getting sweaty at the gym, or curled up crocheting or knitting with a podcast in her ears...or hopping on horseback...as the mood takes her! Blimey - what on earth have we all been doing with our lives?! We chat to Thordis about her love of knitting, her addiction to buying yarn and plants as well as her yearning to plant trees. She has all sorts of ‘show and tell’ moments (so much more effective on the YouTube option!) and we even ‘chat’ momentarily with her dog Lily, a very beautiful CockaPoo. Thordis shares how she got into the worlds of broadcasting and gardening, along with lots of information about knitting patterns, techniques and things which, quite frankly, bamboozled all three of us non-knitting heathens.
