In this episode, we discuss the progress made in introducing a single currency for the west African sub-region, a responsibility assigned to The West African Monetary Institute (WAMI). The introduction of a common West African currency, the Eco, has been in the works for almost two decades now, following the establishment of The West African Monetary Institute in 2001. WAMI was set up under the West African Monetary Zone arrangement with a mandate to undertake all preparatory works that would lead to the establishment of a common West African Central Bank and the introduction of a single currency. Listen as I talk to the Director General of The West African Monetary Institute, Dr Ngozi Egbuna, on the progress of this monetary integration.
