117. Chief Rolón on City of Orlando, immigration and community

The Sifu Mimi Chan Show - A podcast by Mimi Chan - Tuesdays

My guest today is Chief Rolón. My father, Grandmaster Chan, was also excited to host him at the Wah Lum Temple and Culture Center. It was his first visit to our location, and we were honored to share a part of our history and culture with him. I enjoyed talking with Chief Rolón about some of the challenges that confront Orlando, like immigration and law enforcement shootings. Chief Rolon has been a part of the Orlando community for over 40 years. How can we bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement? How can undocumented immigrants get proper assistance from law enforcement? I often have my frustrations with police shootings and the controversies of these cases. I try to use these opportunities to respectfully discuss the subject with law enforcement, and I appreciate Chief Rolón taking the time to talk to me today. As a reminder, my opinion on politics and social issues are my own and do not affect my position at the Wah Lum Temple or my work. I believe in social justice and that by engaging in these conversations I am doing my small part in voicing concerns and trying to seek answers.
