#49 - Dr. Duncan Lorimer - What are Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs)?

The State of The Universe - A podcast by Brendan Drachler

Duncan Lorimer is a Professor of Physics and serves as Associate Dean for External Research Development in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University (WVU) In 2007, his research group discovered a new type of object that had never been observed before - fast radio bursts (FRBs). These objects are still a mystery. Lorimer has been a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society since 1994 and in 2018 was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in recognition of his contributions to our understanding of pulsars, and for the discovery of Fast Radio Bursts.  Duncan is also a very good blues/folk musician who's music can be found at soundcloud.com/duncan-lorimer. I encourage you to check out his music! More information about Duncan can be found at duncanlorimer.com.  Duncan is also one of many people pioneering an effort to get high school students involved in scientific research.
