The Supported Living Property Podcast - A podcast by Lisa Brown

In this episode Sylvia Mahal talks about how her experiences as a foster carer for a disabled child helped her to realise the need for more fully accessible holiday properties and how she set about to develop fully accessible holiday lets.  Sylvia is a very experienced social worker and property investor and she shares her thoughts on the need for more accessible properties and challenges all property investors to think about making properties of all types more accessible. Sylvia Mahal has been married to Kev for 35 years, they have 4 grown up children and 6 grandchildren. They have been investing in property for about 15 years. Initially with Buy to Lets and in the last few years following the Rent-to-Rent model to invest in HMO’s and Serviced Accommodation. Sylvia is a Registered Social Worker as well as a Foster Carer primarily looking after children with various disabilities. Sylvia and her husband are both enthusiastic about supporting Care Leavers in some of their properties. It is well documented that Care Leavers are often left with inadequate housing and support when leaving care at 18. They want to help where they can.  Sylvia’s passion when not working is going on holiday with her family. From her personal experience of trying to find suitably adapted holiday homes and from speaking to other people with the same holiday dilemma. Sylvia has decided to combine her property knowledge and her experience as a Social Worker and Foster Carer to start Elevated Holiday Homes, adapted holiday homes with hoists. Sylvia has purchased two bungalows with the help of an investor.  Website https://elevated.fun/ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/elevated.fun/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/elevated.fun Lisa Brown became a property investor after a long nursing career. She initially developed heritage properties and then a chance encounter led her to discover supported living. She realized this was a powerful way to invest in property while creating homes for people with a support need. Lisa set about discovering why property investors struggle to let their properties to supported living providers and why providers struggle to find property to let. She has been educating people, raising awareness and working on solutions to this problem ever since.
