Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Philip and Dawson revisit an ambitious attempt by Disney Animation to release a non-musical, action-adventure film aimed at older kids and fans of genre fiction. Patterned after classic historical adventure serials, which in turn spawned films like 'Indiana Jones' and 'The Mummy,' 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire' seeks to immerse the viewer in a wondrous, fully-realized ancient world. Milo Thatch is a linguistics and cartography professor who guides a large expedition to the lost continent of Atlantis, now a ruined underground city. Due to ill-fated experiments to weaponize their secret power source, Atlantis is a shadow of its former self, but will this encounter with the outside world help restore this lost civilization? *Correction* Philip misremembers the Venus de Milo statue as missing her head, when in fact she is only missing her arms.
