Forgetting things, we've all been there...life is busy with work, admin, looking after the kids, staying healthy and juggling our social life. It's very easy to forget what you did yesterday, let alone the important dates in the diary.Well, don't panic, because if certain calendar dates have slipped your mind, you're not the only one!In fact, 40% of us admit we have forgotten special occasions, especially with our mothers which include birthdays, meeting for lunch and the big one, Mother's Day.Our forgetfulness often results in rushing around and splashing out on a gift to make up for it.From meals out (37%), pricey gifts (33%) and surprise trips (22%) to spa days (13%), shopping trips (13%) and theatre tickets (11%), on average, it's cost us more than £75 doing a last-minute purchase or having to make up for no gift at all. However, we also put in effort and time trying to buy back some brownie points with our mum to show her how much we care. The research by One4all Gift Cards shows, if we forgot a special day, 27% have spent time doing something which their mum loves, even though they she knew they would hate it, as well as popping around to see her (37%) or chatting over a video call (22%), planning a surprise for her (22%) and making her breakfast in bed (13%).It seems mums don't take forgetfulness to heart as 16% say their mum pretended to be upset and 11% of mums found it funny, teasing us to try harder next year. As little as 1 in 10 were subjected to the 'silent treatment' and one in four were told they had to keep apologising until she finally forgave them.So how do we avoid the unfortunate circumstance of missing the gift for mum this Mother's Day?Well, Hilary Whitehall is on hand to help. Having a busy successful comedian, Jack Whitehall, as a son has meant she's been subject to the unintentionally forgotten occasion here and there.A week out from Mother's Day, she's here to serve as your reminder as well as give some gifting advice that will put a smile on your mum's face and show her how much she is appreciated.
