Warren and Elizabeth Wheeler led a very quiet life in the hamlet of Boars Hill in Oxfordshire, just 10 minutes outside the city centre. Warren had spent most of his life working in the Navy as a stoker and as the 1970's came around the couple spent most of their time pottering around. They were now in their 70's and 80's and Elizabeth was suffering from arthritis which meant she spent most of the time at home. Warren had a very set routine; visiting the shops and going to the pub when it opened. It was this change in routine on October 9th 1973 that alerted their neighbours that something was wrong. When there was no reply, officers attended at their home and found the most violent scene that many of them had witnessed.
