The Venture Brief - A podcast by Lukas Malmberg, Neal Swaelens
Wayne Wu is a General Partner at VMG Partners, a firm investing in the iconic brands of tomorrow.Wayne Wu has had quite a rare path into investing in consumer businesses. He graduated from Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley during the dotcom bust. Having initially aspired to be a part of the dotcom boom, he was now set on a different path. He got his CPA and joined Deloitte as an auditor before joining RBC Capital Markets as an investment banker. With a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, he was offered a CFO role in the automotive retail industry. In 2008, he joined VMG as an associate shortly after the inaugural fund’s final closing and quickly worked his way up. With a keen sense for what makes brands successful, he is now one of the GP’s of VMG Partners, having been part of investments in Kind, Pirates Booty, Natural Balance Pet Foods, Pretzel Crisps and many more.He is the co-host of the podcast Unfinished Biz where they discuss the highs, lows, and challenges of being a founder.Disclaimer: This is the opinion of Wayne Wu, and does not necessarily reflect the opinions and thoughts of VMG Partners.
