As we continue this never ending battle with COVID-19, a lot of our socializing takes place on the internet… even more than it already had been. As such, there’s been an uptick in memes as people grab on to … anything… just to have something to make a human connection. One of the memes you might have seen in the last few weeks was “share your high school senior photo.” Some people are just doing this for fun. Others seem to think it is somehow in support of the class of 2020 who are missing out on having all the fun that senior year is supposed to be about. Of course, that begs the question of “why is it supportive to post a picture reminding them of that?” But it also brings up an interesting cultural question: “What is it like to, without any warning, suddenly be ripped away from your senior year and spend it all in quarantine?” Wayne and Mav welcome back our previous dedicated teenager, Sophie, as well as new guest, Tristyn, to give us insight into rather unique experience of finishing up your high school year during a worldwide pandemic. Do these memes really matter? What really is and isn’t important? What are they missing out on? How does this affect their social lives, school lives, preparation for college, and just general world? Join us as we learn and let us know what you think.
