If you’re a fan of geek media, you likely noticed two important things from Marvel Studios last week. One was the long-awaited release of Deadpool & Wolverine. The second was the San Diego Comicon surprise that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take on the role of Dr. Doom. Between the two this has sparked a sizable amount of conversation about the future direction of the MCU — which, to be fair is why they did it. But for us, it also lead to some meta conversations about the nature of extended franchise media and the inevitable nature of real life time. On this episode Mav, Monica, and Wayne are joined by guests Mike Mazzacane and Sam Tucson tonavigate the dynamics of aging actors reclaiming their superhero roles and the narrative effects therein as well as comparing to other franchises with similar issues like Star Trek, Star Wars and James Bond. Can you think of others? Listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
