The Way through Baguazhang - 八卦掌道 - A podcast by Peter Hainzl
As a good podcast host I am meant to tell you that this podcast will be longer than my usual podcast episodes. Which are normally averaging around three minutes. This podcast will be longer. Maybe 10 minutes or so. If that is too long, now is a good time to stop and listen later when you have more time available. The second thing, I need to tell you, is that the subject matter may be a little difficult to comprehend. In brief, I am going woo-woo and breaking all boundaries regarding qi and energy and how to use it (in a very specific way). The third important point, if you haven’t switched off yet, is that I am selling as in that phrase I sometimes come across from time to time about not buying what the person on the youtube video is promoting. But don’t worry, no money will be exchanging hands. However, if at the end, you feel that you need to argue or strongly reject what I am about to tell, then you have essentially bought my stuff. What that means is that in order to take a position, you must first hold what I say as being real for you. And that in some form what I say is the truth. If it is not your truth, then what will happen is that you will simply switch off and forget all about it. And therefore this article just won’t exist. Nobody every argues against something that does not exist. If you are, by now, still with me… Let’s begin: Once upon a time, which happens to be just last Thursday, in a land far far away, which happens to be Sydney, Australia. I decided to travel from my home in Meadowbank to Penrith, out in far western Sydney. By train, the trip took about an hour and ten minutes. It always amazes me how much the scenery changes from lush green to very brown and dry. Penrith sits on this side of the Blue Mountains - The Outback, as people have come to know it, is a few more hours away on the other side of the mountains. By the time I got to my friend’s clinic The Jade Healing Centre. My friend Steve was having lunch with two other people. One was a hypno-therapist, who was going through a difficult patch dealing with clients and their issues, and needed a way to get a boost. And the other person John was giving an account about another person who had this crazy idea of starting a fuel importing company called Unicorn Petroleum and selling the fuel to the airlines. Apparently this guy was told that he didn’t need a licence and that is was going to make him rich. Because for him this was just another day in paradise, John had already decided to pass Unicorn Petroleum over to another friend of his, who handles government compliance issues. So amongst this, I stroll in, out of the blue. We greet and hug, and I take my place in the spare seat between Steve’s two friends. Now Steve, is an amazing character. He uses qi as part of his chiro practice and can switch a person’s energetic flow on and off at will. The first time I saw it, I was amazed because Penrith is a working man’s town and he gets some of the blokiest guys, I have ever seen coming in; Builders, tradies, sportsmen, guards and the like… Very working class. They come in with problems and they go out fixed. Just no nonsense straight talking, get to the point, stuff. So when we compare notes, our notes on qi are always based on results. He does Tai Chi Quan and I do Baguazhang. And together we help each other to develop Qigong in a way that the western mind can understand and use everyday without the fluff. Although a lot of what I will say next, will sound very fluffy. After having told him that I am there because he energetically called for me, I am also there to show him how I run my qigong classes. My main goal is to consistently be able to take an ordinary person off the street and teach them qigong. But not just the breathing exercises and meditation stuff. But to experience qi as a tangible thing. In my classes there is no touching, so all qi generated, is by way of the person themselves. And so far my results have been consistently abo..
