57. Leonardo drinks tea

The Way through Baguazhang - 八卦掌道 - A podcast by Peter Hainzl

☰/☴ Today I watched an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and in it Leonardo 彊獅 (yang 陽) was having a tea party with a sweet little girl (yin 陰). He could have been out saving the world from his home in the gutters but instead he gave a little girl a little bit of joy in her life. ☷/☲ As a consequence I am feeling "the love" again from a martial arts 武術 perspective, if you know what I mean. ☵/☱ And that, in itself, deserves a big cup of tea 茶. ☲/☷ The scene, while mostly comical, is in fact highly symbolic to high level martial artists steeped with tradition and deep ritualistic meaning that loses its meaning if it is done with coffee, water, alcohol or any other beverage other than tea 茶. ☳/☰ The sharing of tea 茶共享 between the two main rivals before the conclusive final fight is on par to the Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples. ☶/☶ A scene which shows the two rivals are of equal rank and ability, even if they are from different backgrounds or styles, sharing a common bond that the world around them fails to see. ☴/☵ I mean, why would anybody want to drink tea 喝茶 with their enemy (and in mutual respect)? ☱/☳ But that's precisely the point. To get really good at martial arts 武術 we have to let go of the "us versus them" mentality. If we don't, we become pawns of those who can't fight but want to use us for their own agendas that are bit more messed up than simply good versus evil...
