TWR Listeners Lounge - Dr. Don Green

The Wilder Ride - A podcast by The Wilder Ride

In this episode, we welcome Dr. Don Green, President of Georgia Highland's College, who joins us to discuss his career path, education and motivation. We start with his parents putting a premium on education while living in a small town in Michigan. After college and getting his MBA, Don was ready to tackle the business world. In fact, he did, for a short while. But, by chance, he was asked to teach a course on human resources. He was immediately taken with the idea of being a college professor. From there, he began to work toward administration. That path led him to become the newest president of GHC. We also spent time discussing how to go about creating a curriculum in such a fast-paced world. This turned into a topic of how each generation is motivated by different things. Ultimately, Don's passion comes from wanting to guide students toward their own passions and to excel at them. MOVIEWS/STREAMING: Walt has been watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV and gives it two thumbs up! He also likes AP Bio on the Peacock app and Atlanta Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children on HBO. Don admits he may be a little behind, but he's watching The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. He went to the movies to see Bill and Ted Face the Music and did not like it at all. He also referenced the show Haven on Netflix. Alan finished the 5-part documentary series, High Score, and really enjoyed it. He is finishing season 5 of Star Trek: The Next Generation on Netflix and is finishing up season one of Longmier. READING: Walt admits he has been meaning to start reading "The Making of Tombstone," but plans to begin it this week. Don is reading two books and highly recommends them both. The first is, "Happiness by Design," by Paul Dolan. The second is, "Think Small: The Surprisingly Simple Way to Reach Big Goals," by Service and Gallagher. Alan, after having finished the Bosch series, is planning to start at the beginning of the Michael Connelly novels with that character. LISTENING: Walt continues to listen to the Smartless podcast and the Marine Corps Movie Minute. He is also working his way through the 7-part series, Wind of Change. Music-wise, Don is listening to "Nineteen Eighty Thousand" by the Jeb Bush Orchestra and "Doorway" by Wanderwild. As to podcasts, he likes to listen to the UK based show, No Such Thing as a Fish. Alan gave shout-outs to The Bad Cop Bad Cop Show, 60MW Podcast, Radio Labyrinth, Geek to Me Radio and The BK on the Air Escape Pod Podcast.
