Does the idea of 80 year olds having sex make you queasy? Well it shouldn't. Studies show that those having intimate relationships into older age live happier, healthier lives. In this podcast, Kathy Sheridan speaks to Baroness Sally Greengross from the UK's International Longevity Centre, who wants to dispel myths around sex and relationships in later life. She was joined by Professor Rose Anne Kenny of the Irish Longitudinal study on Ageing at Trinity College who said she believes intimacy in older age should be promoted by medical professionals as part of a healthy lifestyle. Also in studio for this episode was Irish Times columnist Hilary Fannin, who was interested to know why some 80 year olds are having more fulfilling sex than many 50 year olds.
