How Committed Are You to Changing Your Life and Body NOW? The big word here is NOW? When I work with clients, I can quickly see their commitment level by listening to the words they tell me. A woman came to me this week sharing with me her desire to lose 50 pounds. When I asked her why she wanted to lose weight, she shared with me that she’s pre-diabetic and really wants to see her health improve. I noticed while I was speaking with her, that she used words like hoping to find time to take action this week, praying for the strength to do this work, and trying to make some new changes to see if they might work. None of this language is bad or wrong at all. These are words many of us use. The concern I have is that they don’t show her determination, her decision, or her commitment to changing her body! I had to do some intense coaching with her to create more results-focused language for her to see her lack of commitment that was showing up all over the place in her language and how she could make this weight loss journey so much easier on herself if she just shifted her language. I want YOU to pay attention to YOUR language by asking… * Are you telling yourself you’re going not to overeat? * Are you hoping you’re not going to overeat tonight at dinner? * Are you trying to not give into late-night eating? * Are you hoping to not give into sugar cravings tonight? This language WILL NOT WORK!! I never said: I hope I graduate college, I hope I don’t cheat on my husband, I hope I can pick up my kids from school. NO!
