I find that much of the story-telling in animated films tends to be better than many "adult" movies (no, not THAT kind of "adult movie"). I think the writers simply aren't trying as hard to tell something different and are just focused on telling the best story they can muster that also houses some fundamental truth or other. And, honestly, I think Dreamworks outdid themselves with the Kung Fu Panda series.
