It’s said that Beethoven’s death was like a biblical scene — he shook his fist at the heavens and a clap of thunder roared across Vienna as he left this world. His contemporary, Mahler, would become obsessed with his death because of another strange coincidence surrounding it: he died composing his tenth symphony, making Beethoven one of a long line of composers to die after completing their ninth symphony.
