A name we should know.

Turns Out She's a Witch - A podcast by Shannon & Laura - Mondays

This episode uncovers the exhaustive historical pattern of the exploitation of age old traditions, teachings and customs by people who have little regard for the ever lasting repercussions. Here lies the story of arguably the most famous Mexican Healer to have ever lived, María Sabina Magdalena García, a Shaman and poet. Born on the 22nd of July 1894, and died at 91 years young, on the 22nd, November 1985, she is renowned for sacred healing ceremonies, called veladas, based on the use of psilocybin mushrooms which she referred to as ‘Saint Children’. Known also for her poetry- which she also attributed to the Saint Children, Maria Sabina is also considered one of Mexico's greatest poets. Maria Sabina’s name, and location of her small town were made public, years of sacred, divine tradition was reduced to ignorant, entitled touristic experience seekers, and even outlawed. This episode honours her life, and her legacy, for which we are yet to fully realise.
