We have Shannon’s FB algorithm to thank for this intriguing episode! Shannon takes us to Alnwick, Northumberland, England, which is home of Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle in England, second only to Windsor Castle. Adjacent to Alnwick Castle are the Alnwick Gardens – which is where the Poison Garden is located. The boundaries of the Poison Garden are kept behind black iron gates, and only open for guided tours. This section of the garden is small - but deadly - filled exclusively with around 100 toxic, intoxicating, and narcotic plants.Visitors are strictly prohibited from smelling, touching, or tasting any plants, although some people still occasionally faint from inhaling toxic fumes while walking through this section of the garden. A combination of dark, ivy-covered tunnels and flame-shaped beds creates an educational garden full of interest and intrigue, where the most dangerous plants are kept within giant cages. Plants such as Henbane, also known as ‘The Witch’s Drug’, Hemlock, Monkshood, Deadly Nightshade (Belladonna for the ‘Practical Magic’ lovers), Opium Poppy, Castor Oil Plant and Angel’s Trumpet are but a few that are grown at Alnwick, and will be sure to have you side-eyeing the plants growing in your own gardens… Divine Tool of the Week- Simmer Pots.
